The
famous film Schindler's
List focused attention on people, who - at great
risk to themselves and their families - helped Jews
escape the Nazi genocide.
These non-Jews are called Righteous Among The Nations
Of The World. They are the spiritual heirs to the
thirty-six Gentiles mentioned in Jewish legend whose
purpose in every generation, unknown to themselves or to
others, is to assist their fellow man in his hour of
greatest despair.
On October 3, 1973, Yad Vashem - The Holocaust Memorial
Authority - decided to recognize the German industrialist
Berthold Beitz
as Righteous Among the Nations.
With
daring and commitment Berthold Beitz stood out against the Holocaust and protected the
employees of his company in Boryslaw, Poland, from being
sent to the death camps.
He put concerns for his own survival in the background
and decided to act .
